Valley high school students get a head start in the world of medicine

At age sixteen, Audrieanna Hernandez is already working to become a rehabilitation therapist. The senior at Duncan Polytechnical High, a magnet school within Fresno Unified is in the Medical Academy of Science and Health (M.A.S.H) Program. It is paving the way for hundreds of Central Valley students like Hernandez to be leaders in the medical field.

Students embrace STEAM, hands-on learning

"What makes you a magnet school?" Part of the response Burlingame received was that the school practices "looping," which keeps students with the same teacher for two years. The goal of looping is to help struggling students and allow teachers to really know their students.

APS gets $7.8M grant for STEM magnet schools

Local kids with a passion for math and science have new options, thanks to a $7.8 million federal grant awarded to Albuquerque Public Schools. The money will be used to convert Mission Avenue Elementary School, Garfield Middle School and Valley High School into "Engineering for the Future" schools with hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics curriculum.

Students in Southeast Middle's magnet program, known as DATA, short for Digital Arts & Technology Academy, led the way in filling out the website.

Grant will fund new intradistrict magnet schools in Norwich, Groton

Jackie Barone, principal of Charlotte-Mecklenburg's Piedmont Middle School, has been named 2017 administrator of the year by the National Association for Gifted Children. "One of the most remarkable environments I have ever visited is Piedmont IB Middle School," said Sneha Shah-Coltrane, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction's top official for education of gifted students.
