Eco-Makers Camp Connects Creativity, Sustainability, and Future Careers

The Office of Innovation launched its inaugural Eco-Makers Camp, a dynamic two-week experience connecting technology, creativity, and environmental stewardship.

As a collaborative initiative among the four Albuquerque Public Schools Magnet Schools in the MSAP 2023 cohort—Los Padillas Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, Polk Middle, and Rio Grande High —the camp brought the Sustaining the Future K–12 pathway to life. Students explored real-world environmental challenges through agriSTEM activities, robotics, drones, and hands-on fabrication while developing creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. The camp provided an authentic introduction to the CTE pathways and career opportunities available at Polk and Rio Grande, helping students envision how their K–12 experiences can connect to future-focused programs and careers in environmental science, agriculture, technology, and engineering.

By showcasing the pathway across grade levels, Eco-Makers served as both an engaging learning experience and a strategic recruitment and marketing opportunity, strengthening connections among students, families, and the Sustaining the Future magnet schools.
