Dr. Monika Wiley has been a magnet school teacher and principal, Director of Fine Arts and School Choice and currently serves as Georgia’s Clayton County Public Schools Assistant Superintendent of Strategic Improvement in the Division of Teaching and Learning & Strategic Improvement.
Since creating the new Magnet Programs Department, Monika has opened ten new magnet programs – two of those schools were charter schools the district converted to magnet schools. Under her leadership, Clayton County Public Schools grew their programs to include: Fine Arts Magnets (three levels), STEM, Mathematics-Science-Technology, Mathematics and Computer Science, four Dual Language Elementary, Dual Language Middle, Early College, and Film and Media.
She has been invited to serve on various education advisory committees, including The High Museum, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, and ArtsNow Teaching and Learning Across the Curriculum. Monika believes in the power of partnerships and as such has developed fruitful relationships with the Alliance Theatre, Clayton State University, Georgia Institute of Technology (CEISMC), Savannah College of Art and Design, and the Georgia Council for Assessment. Through these partnerships, Clayton County Public Schools received the following grants: Central Georgia EMC ($9,000), U.S. Department of Education ($1.9 Million, $1.25 Million and $14.9 Million), and Georgia Office of Student Achievement ($150,000).
Monika’s extensive education includes the University of West Georgia, Doctor of School Improvement (Ed.D.) Major: Educational Leadership; University of West Georgia, Specialist in Education Major: Educational Leadership; Nova Southeastern University, Master of Science; Major: Mathematics Education; Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, Bachelor of Science Major: Mathematics Education.
