Dr. Matthew J. Etchells

Dr. Matthew J. Etchells serves as Director of Choice Schools for Houston ISD, where he leads strategic planning and oversight for 123 magnet programs across 118 schools. His recent work includes launching the HISD Magnet Hub, developing districtwide school choice strategies, and advancing initiatives that expand equitable access to high-quality specialized programs. With more than 25 years of experience in education leadership, he has led multimillion-dollar federal grant initiatives, school improvement efforts, and international education partnerships.
