Magnet Schools of America congratulates the top magnet schools included in the U.S. News and World Report 2018 Best High Schools Rankings

Washington, DC May 9, 2018 – Magnet Schools of America (MSA) is proud to announce that six magnet schools have been ranked within the top 20 Best High Schools in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. In addition to this tremendous accomplishment, magnet schools also make up one quarter of the top 100 high schools that were ranked this year.

“The fact that so many magnet schools landed in the top 100 reflects the commitment to excellence by our school leaders, teachers, and students,” said Todd Mann, Executive Director of MSA. “Along with providing rigorous theme-based curriculum and instruction, magnet schools are unique because they seek to promote both racial and socioeconomic diversity. In an increasingly interdependent world, we believe that a magnet school education best prepares students for the society in which they will work and live.”

The U.S. News and World Report Best High Schools rankings identify the country’s top-performing public high schools and include data on more than 20,500 schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Among these schools the top 5,948 public high schools were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, indicating their ability to prepare students for college. All schools are ranked based on state reading and mathematics assessments, graduation rates, and a College Readiness Index that takes into consideration the percentage of students at each school who took and passed AP and IB exams.
