Dr. Kim Morrison has worked in the educational field for 27 years. For the last fifteen years, she has worked specifically with innovative and theme-based schools. She added 10 magnet schools in less than seven years implementing such themes as Arts, International Baccalaureate, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, as well as Language Immersion reaching over 10,000 students.
She is currently superintendent in the Mount Airy City School district implementing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) district wide. She has helped bring in over 30 million dollars of federal grants to support innovative schools and works with districts all over the country to implement strong magnet and innovative programs. Programs she initiated and implemented have won national awards including the Ronald P. Simpson award, the top magnet award in the nation.
American Association of School Administrators named her as a finalist for their national, “Women in School Leadership Awards.” She has won the North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities Administrator of the Year, and Appalachian State University’s prestigious Reich College of Education Rhododendron Society Award for Alumni.
