2021 Regional Director (I, III, V) Candidates

This year, members of Magnet Schools of America (MSA) will elect a Regional Director for Regions I, III and V to serve on the board for the next two years.

Julie Goldstein

50-word statement

Over the past ten years I have served as Region I Director, co-chaired the Member Value Project Work Group, judged MSA Finalist Schools, and led two magnet schools recognized annually as Schools of Merit. I have also hosted visits, advocated on Capitol Hill and presented at National and Technical Conferences.


Evonne S. Alvarez

50-word statement

As the Administrative Director for Schools Choice and Parental Options for Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), I bring a unique perspective from the fourth-largest school district in the country. M-DCPS continues to lead the nation with innovative magnet programs that demonstrate a commitment to high academic standards, rigorous curriculum, desegregation & diversity efforts, and parental & community involvement. As the MSA Region III Director for the next two years, I will continue to serve all stakeholders and advocate equitable academic outcomes for all students.


Justin Fuentes

This position provides an opportunity to effect change at a greater scale. That change includes supporting school and district staff, sharing best practices across districts, focusing on national trends and policies, and championing the needs of those in my given region.
