Open Board Positions: Magnet Schools of America (MSA) is accepting applications and letters of interest for election to the Board of Directors for 2024-2026. The open positions are for:
Interested candidates for both positions must be members of MSA and are requested to submit the required materials below to Ramin Taheri, Chief Executive Officer, Magnet Schools of America by Friday, January 12, 2024, 5 pm EASTERN. Candidates are required to submit the following as part of their application, and for publication on the MSA website:
Candidates must present their interest on a video webinar in January (dates TBD)
President-Elect and Specialized Directors (3) will be elected electronically using an online ballot. The website address and the instructions for voting will be provided to the membership via email. Voting will take place from January 15, 2024, through February 9, 2024.
Term of office and Board Member Requirements:
Both positions are for a two-year term (May 1, 2024-Spring, 2026). Those elected must register for the 2024 National Conference on Magnet Schools in New York, New York, and attend the business meeting at that conference.
Board members are required to attend three meetings each year. Board members are encouraged to attend each MSA conference, particularly the National Conference. Board members are reimbursed for the Board-meeting only portion of their travel, and only up to $1,000 total.

“The President-Elect shall, in the absence of the President, perform the responsibilities of the President” and will assume office on May 1, 2024. The President-Elect assumes the office of President two years later. To be eligible, a nominee for President-Elect must have served on the Board of Directors for a minimum of two years as of May 1, 2024.
The President-Elect is a member of the Executive Committee and attends the in-person Executive Committee meetings held before each board meeting. The President-Elect also attends monthly virtual meetings of the Executive Committee. The President-Elect is required to attend all Board meetings as well.
“The Specialized Director shall provide input and perspective in one or more of the following specialized areas: (a) Higher Education, State, or Local School Officials, and Equity Assistance Centers, (b) Theme-Based Specialist, (c) Curriculum Specialist, (d) Evaluation and Research Specialist, (e) Nonprofit/private affiliate, (f) Magnet Affiliate.” Specialized Directors are required to attend all Board meetings.
