Steven Unowksy

Superintendent
Richfield Public Schools, MN

Steven Unowsky has been the Superintendent of Richfield Public Schools since July 2014.  During the past three years Richfield has seen consistent growth in standardized test scores along with large jumps in graduation rates.  Richfield Public Schools has launched a free health center, positively transformed the high school, implemented comprehensive pre-school and community programming and received over $3 million in new grant funding to support students and families

Prior to his position at Richfield, Unowsky was an assistant superintendent with St. Paul Public Schools. Before that, he was the Director of Leadership Development and Academic Support as well as an elementary and middle school principal in the district.

He has also served as an assistant principal in Saudi Arabia and as an assistant principal and teacher at Annunciation School in Minneapolis.

Unowsky is currently enrolled in an Educational Doctorate program at St. Mary’s University; has completed administrative licensure programs at St. Mary’s as well as at Minnesota State University, Mankato; and holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees (counseling psychology and child psychology) from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

He is married and has a child attending Anthony Middle School in South Minneapolis.
