Jayme Rawson, College Coordinator and Achievement Coach, East Career and Technical Academy in Las Vegas, appreciates the opportunity to share best practices with fellow magnet school teachers from across the country at MSA national conferences. Following her first foray at a Chattanooga conference, Jayme used the inspiration from the conference to create and coordinate East Tech’s Senior Capstone Project Experience for students. The event now attracts 500 visitors to East Tech’s community from industries statewide.
While firmly rooted in the present and the profound impact of magnet school education, Jayme currently looks toward the future as she works with seniors at East Career and Technical Academy to develop their post high school plans. She provides support for the college application process, both in person and via a website she created and holds a variety of workshops, revises hundreds of college and scholarship essays, provides field trip experiences for juniors and seniors who visit college campuses and work environments, and schedules college recruiting visits, among other vital tasks that support their dreams for the future.
As the former English Department Chair, Jayme assisted in planning department-wide trainings, creating and monitoring teacher collaboration teams, purchasing books and other responsibilities, including teaching her own courses.
Jayme’s enthusiasm for magnet schools as well as MSA is infectious and is looking forward to serving, and working with her region, and MSA, as the Director of Region II.
