Gia Moore has been an educator in the nation’s fifth largest district for the past 15 years. Three years ago, she was appointed as Director of Magnet Schools and Career and Technical Academies where she currently oversees magnet and choice programs in 42 schools that service over 26,000 students. In 2014, she embarked upon a 12 school magnet expansion in order to provide more access and opportunity to an additional 5,000 students.
A graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a B.A. in English, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, in 2015, Ms. Moore earned an executive certificate in Educational Leadership and Management from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. Throughout this experience, Moore had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the nation’s top Educators including Kaya Henderson, Chancellor of Washington D.C. Public Schools.
She has devoted her career to magnet education as a teacher as well as a building and central office administrator. She hopes that this experience will contribute to her leadership position as Region VIII Director. Her mission is to increase opportunities to engage in meaningful dialog, share best practices and ideas, and focus on collaborative problem solving.
